About Our Founder

Monologue Founder and Principal Michelle Lee is an award-winning marketer and editor, named an Adcolor Legend in 2021 for her groundbreaking work in diversity and inclusion. As a global marketing VP at Netflix, she led global social media, digital, print, and podcasts for the nearly $200B company, which has the second largest social following in the world. She oversaw a team of 90+ people across multiple continents to drive brand love and excitement for a diverse slate of series and films.

She spent 6 years as Editor in Chief of Allure, where she transformed the legendary beauty media brand into an innovative, multi-faceted brand that champions diversity and challenges old-fashioned beauty standards. She was named Adweek’s Editor of the Year in 2017, while Allure was named Magazine of the Year for their groundbreaking moments, such as the July 2017 This Is American Beauty cover featuring model Halima Aden in a hijab and their September 2017 oath to ban the term “anti-aging” from their lexicon, which sparked global conversation about how we speak about aging.

She led Allure to dramatic revenue growth through e-commerce, branded content, video, the Allure Beauty Box, their iconic Best of Beauty Awards, a brick-and-mortar store in NYC, events, partnerships (with brands like Ulta Beauty, Dyson, and Shiseido), and more.

Prior to Allure, Michelle was Editor in Chief of NYLON. In 2015, she launched NYLON Studio, the company’s in-house creative agency and was promoted to Chief Marketing Officer putting her in charge of ideation and execution of native advertising, in addition to her EIC role. Previously, she was Co-founder/Chief Marketing Officer at branded content agency Magnified Media.

Michelle was a Scout for Sequoia Capital and an advisor for Silicon Foundry. For four years, she sat on the board of ColorComm; and currently sits on the Board of Gold House and Advisory Council of Act to Change, and is an advisor to growth stage investor Provenance.
